TOP OF THE DAY by Howard Polskin

Nov. 14, 2024

Greetings! So Donald Trump’s nominee for Attorney General is Matt Gaetz. I guess Fox News late night host Greg Gutfeld didn’t want to take a pay cut… Another Trump beauty pageant?  Trump’s most controversial choices for key government positions – Matt Gaetz, Tulsi Gabbard and Peter Hegseth – all have one thing in common: they’re photogenic…Meanwhile, there’s a split in Murdoch World over Trump picking Gaetz for the nation’s highest legal post. A NY Post  headline proclaims Gaetz  “the perfect choice for Attorney General.”  The editorial board of Murdoch’s Wall Street Journal  calls him a “bad choice”…Breaking news this morning: The Onion, the left-leaning satirical outlet, has acquired the toxic, conspiracy-spewing Infowars. Founded by the execrable Alex Jones, it was Infowars that claimed the Sandy Hook shooting of elementary school children was a hoax.  More details about the sale will emerge in the coming days…Blaze Media just launched a quarterly magazine called Frontier aimed squarely at a rightward audience.  Tucked behind a paywall, a yearly Frontier subscription (which includes membership in Blaze+) runs a hefty $240…Weekend Watch: Max’s Call Me Ted, a six-part documentary on legendary CNN founder Ted Turner.  Last night, I watched Part I and it captures Ted’s brash humor and swashbuckling style so sorely missing in today’s media/tech moguls. As a former CNN staffer – I headed the NY Comms shop at the all-news network for five years in the late 90s –  I worked often with Ted.  I always admired him as a powerful force for good in the media and the world at large.  He loved Mother Earth and all its creatures, fought tirelessly for nuclear disarmament and had a passionate belief in humanity…Tomorrow is a travel day for me.  See you Monday.  Texas, here I come…If you keep reading, I’ll keep Righting.
