TOP OF THE DAY by Howard Polskin

Apr. 23, 2026

Greetings! Phrase of the day: Elite overproduction. It’s when “when members of the elite (or those with the talents to join it) become too numerous for society to accommodate their aspirations,” explains Andrew Stuttaford in the National Review.  Seems like a fancy way of saying there are not enough jobs for recent college grads…Book news: The Federalist editor-in-chief Mollie Hemingway has written a biography of conservative Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito. And, of course, our  erudite POTUS gave full-throated support for the book in a Truth Social post. Wanna bet he hasn’t and never will read it?…Backlash against The Boss: Ticket prices for Bruce Springsteen’s current tour hit some sour notes with NJ.com’s Bobby Oliver. “Springsteen’s artistic identity, as a bleeding-heart populist who sings for the destitute and downtrodden, has never been more disconnected from his economic behavior as a touring act or businessman,” writes Oliver. Tickets sell for nearly $3,000 and “No Kings” t-shirts fetch $90, he claims. The right-wing Hollywood in Toto website took note too… Hollywood in Toto also targets George Clooney and his wife for donating $1 million to the Left-leaning Southern Poverty Law Center in 2017. The group is now under investigation by the Justice Department for allegedly funneling money to pay leaders of certain hate groups for inside information. That led to this head-snapping headline in Hollywood in Toto: Did George Clooney Help Fund KKK, Unite the Right?…If you keep reading, I’ll keep Righting. Howard
