TOP OF THE DAY by Howard Polskin

Oct. 4, 2024

Greetings! It’s getting ugly out there.  The UK’s Daily Mail dropped a story on Wednesday claiming that Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff allegedly slapped an ex-girlfriend for flirting at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival.  While the ex was not named by the outlet, she was described as a New York attorney.  Right wing media like Breitbart have picked up on the story.  NewsBusters asserts that the three broadcast networks have completely ignored it. Emhoff has denied the accusations…The Washington Times says JD Vance gave the “greatest vice presidential debate performance in American history”… Scariest book for Halloween?  Try reading Nuclear War: A Scenario by Annie Jacobsen.  It imagines what happens in the minutes after a hostile state like North Korea launches a surprise nuclear attack on the U.S.  The first few pages outlines in gruesome detail the effects of a direct on the Pentagon and the ensuing catastrophe in the DC area.  You won’t sleep after you read it (I didn’t)….Weekend watches:  The six-part Netflix documentary Mr. McMahon, about the bloviating genius who ran WWE for almost four decades, is a fascinating character study about a despicable human who revolutionized pro wrestling.  The six-part series draws some parellells to Trump in the final episode.  Also recommended: the soapy six-part whodunnit Netflix series The Perfect Couple. It was pure escapist entertainment.  I’m not  usually drawn to these types of series, but once I started watching, I couldn’t stop…If you keep reading, I’ll keep Righting. Howard
