TOP OF THE DAY by Howard Polskin

May. 29, 2025

Greetings! Acronym of the Day:  TACO (Trump Always Chickens Out, when it comes to tariffs).  USA Today explains the term and why Wall Street traders have embraced it.  PS. I know what I’m having for lunch today!…Adios to Elon Musk who announced he’s leaving the Trump administration.  Anyone sorry to see him go?…Right-wing media has ”60 Minutes” correspondent Scott Pelley in its crosshairs for his recent commencement speech at Wake Forest University.  During the address, Pelley warned that “our sacred rule of law is under attack. Journalism is under attack. Universities are under attack. Freedom of speech is under attack.” The NY Post described his speech as “unhinged.” The New Republic has published the full transcript of the 25-minute speech…This sickens my stomach. Health and Human Services chief Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., has demanded government-funded scientists not publish  their research in respected  medical journals such as Lancet and The New England Journal of Medicine.  The unhinged HHS Supremo says such periodicals  are “corrupt” tools of big Pharma.  Kennedy says the government might launch  its own publication. My suggested title: Quack.  Politico and The Washington Post have stomach-churning details…Tough question: who’s the most dishonest person in Trump’s White House other than you-know-who?  It’s Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, opines Stop the Presses’ Mark Jacob who describes a blatant lie as a “Lutnick.”  The Commerce Secretary gets the nod because he “cheerfully and enthusiastically showers snake oil on our country.” My vote goes to Pete “Hair Gel” Hegseth,  but he’s got mucho competition in  the race to the bottom…If you keep reading, I’ll keep Righting.
