TOP OF THE DAY by Howard Polskin

May. 1, 2026

Greetings! The Son Also Rises: Nikki Haley’s 24-year-old son Nalin “has become  a poster boy for the young, post-Trump conservative movement,” according to The Free Press. Last March, he organized a high-profile  event for South Carolina young Republicans, where his mother served as governor.  A budding right wing media darling, Nalin’s been welcomed on “Fox & Friends” and The Tucker Carlson Show (forward to  the 48:30 mark)…Dept. of Broken Records. Once again, Trump slandered a person of color with one of his favorite schoolyard bully slurs. Yesterday, in  a Truth Social post, The Donald called Hakeem Jeffries a “Low IQ individual” for comments the House Minority Leader made about the Supreme Court’s ruling gutting the Voting Rights Act…The arch-conservative Media Research Council (MRC) found that 88% of news coverage of the war with Iran by ABC, CBS and NBC was negative. The MRC examined the evening newscasts of those networks from March 16 through April 15. ABC had the most negative coverage, per MRC…Weekend Watch (retro edition): If you want to see an Attorney General of the United States as awful  as Pam Bondi or Todd Blanche, check out the 2020 Netflix original The Trial of the Chicago 7. Early in the film, there’s a short scene in the office of Richard Nixon’s vile Attorney General John Mitchell (who later went to jail for his role in Watergate) that paints him as sinister as anyone in the Trump administration.  On the flip side, late in the movie, there are two scenes with the great Michael Keaton as former U.S. AG and civil rights warrior Ramsey Clark, a reminder that there are still those in high office willing to fight to preserve democracy.  FYI: “The Trial of the Chicago 7” was written and directed by Aaron Sorkin, famous for  the hit TV series “The West Wing” and iconic films like “A Few Good Men”…If you keep reading, I’ll keep Righting.
