TOP OF THE DAY by Howard Polskin

Aug. 11, 2025

Greetings! Thank you Sharon Waxman.  The CEO of TheWrap, the entertainment news website, provided a much-needed definition of the term wokeism in a weekend NY Times op-ed about the demise of Hollywood’s “progressive snowflake” era.  Waxman calls wokeism “the belief in progressive values aimed at correcting systemic injustices tied to race, gender and other marginalized traits.” Nailed it….Super Bad? Dean Cain, who soared to B-list fame playing Superman in the 90s TV program “Lois and Clark,” has a new gig.  The MAGA-loving actor is starring in a recruitment video for ICE. (MSNBC) Worth noting: Cain, 59, is half-Japanese and his ancestors were held at an internment camp in Idaho during World War II. (The Daily Beast)…Looks like we might have a new villain in the GOP.  And that honor goes to Rep. Cory Mills  (R-FL).  His former girlfriend, Lindsay Langston, the reigning Miss United States, filed a restraining order last month alleging that he threatened to release sexual images of her.  The details get even more sordid and they’re covered extensively in this article from Drop Site News, which first reported the story…Weekday Watch: In remembrance of astronaut Jim Lovell, who died at the age of 97 last Thursday, I’m recommending Apollo 13 (available only for a slight fee on Amazon Prime). The movie was based on the true story of the failed Apollo 13 mission in 1970, commanded by Jim Lovell (played to perfection by Tom Hanks).  The dramatization misquotes Lovell saying, “Houston, we have a problem.” Nonetheless, the story – and Lovell’s critical role in guiding the stricken space ship back to earth — embodies the American spirit of adventure, resourcefulness and courage in the face of mortal danger.  Thank you, Jim Lovell for inspiring all earth-bound humans….If you keep reading, I’ll keep Righting.
