TOP OF THE DAY by Howard Polskin

Apr. 14, 2026

Greetings! Paging Dr. Trump: The country’s Fabulist-in-Chief tried unsuccessfully to spin his way out of his unforced error of posting an AI-generated image of himself Sunday night as a Christ-like figure hovering over a sick man.  “I thought it was me as a doctor, and had to do with Red Cross, as a Red Cross worker there, which we support,” Trump said, according to The Hill and other outlets. He scoffed at claims that the image was meant to depict him as Jesus. “Only the ‘fake news’ could come up with that one,” he said. Memo to “Dr.” Trump: The far-right Daily Wire described Trump as “dressed like Jesus” as TheRighting noted yesterday…Dept. of Mild Headlines: This is the anodyne headline of the NY Times article describing Trump’s recent flurry of unhinged Truth Social posts and terrifying outbursts: “Trump’s Erratic Behavior and Extreme Comments Revive Mental Health Debate.”  I have a more accurate headline: “Nation and World Panic as Trump Descends into Madness”…Book Critic-in-Chief: In an apparent moment of lucidity, Trump has endorsed Congresswoman Elise Stefanik’s new book Poisoned Ivies: The Inside Story of the Academic and Moral Rot at America’s Elite Universities. In his blurb-ready post to Truth Social, Trump wrote, “There is nobody more qualified to speak on this important subject than Elise, who totally exposed the Crooked Former Presidents of Harvard, UPenn, and MIT, in a Congressional Hearing that was seen and heard around the World.” The book lands at retailers today… Incoming Hungarian prime minister Peter Maygar, who toppled incumbent autocrat Viktor Orbán, was accused of domestic violence by both his ex-wife and ex-girlfriend. (Hungarian Conservative)…Visits to all right-wing news websites cratered in March, except one, according to new research released this morning by TheRighting. The Free Press, co-founded by mainstream media piñata Bari Weiss who now helms CBS News, posted a year-over-year increase in visits…If you keep reading, I’ll keep Righting. Howard
