TOP OF THE DAY by Howard Polskin

Mar. 12, 2025

Greetings! Most accurate right-wing headline of the day, courtesy of National Review: “Trump’s Reckless War on Canada”…The Donald believes he’s supporting his co-POTUS Elon Musk by purchasing a bright red Tesla, but he’s actually alienating half the market that wants nothing to do with anything Trump endorses or buys. USA Today columnist Rex Huppke said it best yesterday: “As the stock market continues to tank, President Donald Trump – champion of the forgotten men and women of America – is doing what any pro-fossil-fuel, regular-Joe patriot would do in times of economic anxiety: He’s buying an expensive electric car from the richest man in the world.”  Worth noting:  Tesla’s stock price has fallen 45% year-to-date, making it the S&P 500’s worst-performing stock. Also of note: Despite the Tesla stock dive, Musk is still worth north of $300 billion. (Forbes)…Required reading: NY Times resident conservative columnist Bret Stephens’ no-holds-barred column about Trump’s insane zigzagging trade tariff war with our most trusted allies. Key point: “Until (Trump), no U.S. president has been so ignorant of the lessons of history. Until him, no U.S. president has been so incompetent in putting his own ideas into practice”…My two cents on the 2024 Reagan biopic, which I watched on a flight back to NY yesterday: a slick, paint-by-the-numbers portrait of the GOP icon. It depicts Reagan as a tough-as-nails foe of the Soviet Union in stark contrast to the current Oval Office occupant.  Still, I’d suggest fast-forwarding through the many lovey-dovey Nancy Reagan scenes. It makes the film easily 20  minutes too long…If you keep reading, I’ll keep Righting. Howard
