TOP OF THE DAY by Howard Polskin

Oct. 11, 2024

Greetings! Those friendly relief workers who are helping victims of recent hurricanes just might be neo-Nazis.  That’s the premise of a chilling article in today’s Wall Street Journal revealing that white supremist groups in North Carolina and Florida are assisting storm-battered victims “in order to boost recruitment and burnish their image.”  These media-savvy groups often film their work for propaganda purposes like spreading disinformation about the government’s relief efforts…Also worth noting from the WSJ: An op-ed charges that natural disasters bring out the worst in Trump as he lies for political purposes…The right wing satirical website The Babylon Bee (funny tagline: fake news  you can trust) has released a full-length “mockumentary” called “January 6: The Most Deadliest Day” (see trailer).  I will try to screen it in the coming days and report on my findings…My biggest accomplishment this week is that I’ve learned to spell Tony Dokoupil, the beleaguered co-host of “CBS Mornings” who was publicly criticized by his bosses for asking tough questions in an interview with a controversial author. Most right wing media outlets support him…Weekend Watch (especially for the Yom Kippur weekend, which starts tonight): Nobody Wants This, the Netflix streaming series about a hot Los Angeles rabbi and his non-Jewish blonde girlfriend (Kristen Bell) who co-hosts a salty podcast.  I’ve seen most of season one and it’s definitely laugh-out-loud funny without being a low-brow network sitcom. It’s already been deservedly renewed for a second season…TheRighting will not publish Columbus Day.  See you Tuesday…If you keep reading, I’ll keep Righting. Howard
