Washington Times Notches Second Consecutive Month

with Traffic Surpassing Washington Examiner

June 23, 2020, New York, NY – For the second month in a row, traffic to the Washington Times surpassed the Washington Examiner, according to TheRighting’s exclusive analysis of May 2020 mobile and desktop traffic based on Comscore data.  The Times is now the second most-trafficked conservative website, trailing only Foxnews.com.

Year-over-year (YOY) traffic increased 165% in May as the Times attracted 16,368,000 unique visitors, which was up 10.2 million from May 2019.  The Washington Examiner drew 11,181,00 million unique visitors in May and ranked as the third-most trafficked right-wing website.

“Every single media outlet in TheRighting’s top 20 conservative websites posted year-over-year gains in unique visitors, which reflects the public’s voracious appetite for news and insights in these dark times,” said Howard Polskin, President and Chief Curator, TheRighting.  “The gains were driven not only by the ongoing coverage of the pandemic, which entered its third month, but also by the death of George Floyd on May 25 and the ensuing social unrest that captured the full attention of the American public on both sides of the aisle.”

The robust news environment also significantly boosted the traffic of mainstream media outlets in May 2020.  The New York Times Brand generated a 36% increase in YOY traffic, followed by CNN.com ((+29%) and the Washingtonpost.com (+18%).

CNS News and PJ Media experienced the largest YOY percentage increase in traffic for the second consecutive month with substantial triple-digit gains.  Breitbart posted its third straight month of YOY traffic increases, effectively halting a slump that lasted almost three years.
