TOP OF THE DAY by Howard Polskin

Greetings! The influential Canadian news brand The Globe and Mail published an op-ed yesterday urging the nation’s citizens to prepare for the possible U.S. invasion of their country.  The authors of the article, Thomas Homer-Dixon and Adam Gordon, theorize that Trump is eyeing the oil-rich province of Alberta as the 51st state...NewsBusters reviewed the Monday night broadcast of  “The CBS Evening News with Tony Dokoupil” and gave the new program some mild praise.  Editor Curtis Houck  wrote that the show came off as “refreshingly down-the-middle and normal. One might suggest normal might convey a feeling of boredom or staleness. But in this deeply partisan world and a legacy, elite media that have long lost the trust of the wider public, it’s what we need.” Worth noting: Status News eviscerated Dokoupil’s first two broadcasts this week citing “a chaotic on-air rollout, cringe social posts and MAGA-friendly editorial choices.” Editor Oliver Darcy called it an “embarrassment”...Townhall has released its second version of its list of 2025’s worst journalists featuring selections 11 through 30.  Among the choices: ABC’s David Muir (#28), CNN’s Brian Stelter (#20), and NBC’s Kristen Welker (#13)...This is the January 7, 2020, front page of the NY Times reporting on the J6 insurrection.  The giant headline splattered across the entire page says it all, “Trump Incites Riot”...RIP Michael Reagan, 80, the eldest son of conservative icon Ronald Reagan. He was a conservative talk show host and actor.  He appeared frequently on Newsmax TV and wrote a column for its website. Michael Reagan’s last column was published yesterday...If you keep reading, I’ll keep Righting. Howard

It’s Not Springsteen’s America Anymore

source: The American Conservative

Everyone’s talking about “affordability,” and for good reason. Too many Americans die of fentanyl overdoses because it is better than acknowledging their lives had fallen somehow even another level closer to hell. This isn’t Springsteen’s America anymore.

Tim Walz for U.S. Senate?  It’s a possibility according to a post on X from Townhall’s Dustin Gage who speculates that if Amy Klobuchar decides to run for governor of Minnesota and wins, she’ll appoint Walz to fill the U.S. Senate seat she currently holds...The Departed. Yesterday was the last day in government for Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Dan Bongino,  now ex-FBI Deputy Director.  Bongino is likely to return to gassing into the mic and regain his position as one the most popular MAGA podcasters. As for MTG, stay tuned for her next move, but rest assured she'll be back in  the spotlight soon...Townhall released its list of the 50 worst journalists of 2025 who are charged with flagrant professional malpractice and ethics violations.  Today, Townhall’s Brad Slager includes journo violators 31 through 50, ranked on his estimation, on output, impact of reporting, and influence wielded by each. This supposed reporters’ rogue gallery includes MS Now’s Stephanie Ruhle (#44), NPR’s David Folkenflick (#41), and NY Times columnist David French (tied for 31)...A tabloid take on the news from the right is coming to The Golden State later this month.  The California Post, a sister publication of Rupert Murdoch’s feisty  NY Post, has a January 26 launch date.  Expect Gov. Gavin Newsom, a 2028 Democratic presidential candidate hopeful, to become The California Post’s  public enemy #1.  Buckle up, Mr. Governor...If you keep reading, I’ll keep Righting. Howard

Trump Rescues Venezuela

Predictably — all too predictably — there were Democrats who were instantly on the attack, going after Trump and, in effect, without saying so explicitly, defending Maduro and company.

Trump’s Clear Message: The Western Hemisphere Is Ours

source: Victory Girls

This all points to Cuba, at long last, being the next domino to fall. Russia is in no position to rush in to help, and China probably won’t either. The Trump administration’s position is being made starkly clear – the Western Hemisphere is the purview of the United States.

Cuba in a Panic

Few people are more upset about Nicolás Maduro's arrest than the descendants of the Fidel Castro regime in Cuba. (Well, except for maybe the Democrats in Congress and other white leftists in the United States.)

On This Jan. 6, Remember the Violence of 2020’s BLM Riots

source: Washington Examiner

Democrats like to use it as an example, ad nauseam, of the dangers of Trump’s powers and the devotion of his followers. But while they regularly cite Jan. 6 as a dark day in the nation’s history due to the carnage at the Capitol, they conspicuously lack the same appetite to offer similar criticism for the much more violent, destructive, and damaging riots of Black Lives Matter and antifa in 2020.
