What a relief the pandemic is behind us. It was awful. On that we all agree. The only honest conclusion is that the official reaction of government, the public-health authorities, the scientific establishment and most of the media was way off the mark. So far off the mark in some cases that historians of the future will wonder if we lost our minds.
