Susan Estrich: Has Covid-19 ushered in a new era of selfishness as official policy? What’s safe is a question for the scientists, uncertainties accepted, honesty required. What’s fair is a question of the common good for the rest of us to face. We need facts to answer either question, and those facts seem more and more difficult to come by as politics dominates the discourse. The decision of a single federal judge hardly erases all the uncertainties.
