TOP OF THE DAY by Howard Polskin

Greetings! In subtle ways, opposition to Trump was woven into the fabric of last night’s mostly bland Oscars.  For instance, Barbra Streisand’s tribute to the late Robert Redford, co-star in “The Way We Were,” spoke about how that iconic film was set in a time when Americans took loyalty oaths and were blacklisted for their political affiliations. She spoke of Redford’s environmental activism and his free speech advocacy.  Another example:  a gentle, yet  powerful anti-gun message from Gloria Cazares, the mother of a little girl killed in the Uvalde school massacre. She took the stage briefly after the film about the incident, “All the Empty Rooms,” won Oscar for Best Documentary Short.” “My daughter, Jackie, was nine years old when she was killed in Uvalde,” Cazares said. “Since that day, her bedroom has been frozen in time.”  The most overt political commentary came from Jimmy Kimmel who delivered this zinger: “As you know there are some countries whose leaders don’t support free speech. I’m not at liberty to say which.  Let’s just leave it at North Korea and CBS”...Worth noting: the MAGA-friendly showbiz site Hollywood in Toto gave the Oscars a big thumbs down, summing it up with this critique: “Conan O’Brien leads Trump Derangement gala at worst possible time” ...Brilliant: Saturday night’s MAHAspital ranks as the best SNL skit of the season. The hilarious spoof playing off  the hit TV series “The Pitt,” imagines an ER being run by medical personnel who are RFK Jr. vax-denying disciples.  MAHAspital’s tagline? “For people who love ‘The Pitt’ but can’t stand it’s liberal phony science”....Worth noting: another SNL bit that nailed it from Saturday night was a Tucker Carlson rant (played to perfection by Jeremy  Culhane) about woke Oscar politics...If you keep reading, I’ll keep Righting. The Obama Gravy Train Just Hit a Disgusting New Low

It wasn’t even a week ago when we reported that Valerie Jarrett was raking in a staggering $740,000 from the Obama Foundation. New tax filings reveal that she’s hardly alone, as other Obama insiders also pull down bloated, above‑market salaries, thanks in part to the fact that the foundation pays just $10 a year for 19 acres of prime Chicago parkland.

A few days ago, FCC Chairman Brendan Carr reminded broadcasters that companies that use the public airwaves have an obligation under federal law to operate in the public interest. The reaction from Democrats and much of the press has been furious. But looking at the law and the facts show that. Brendan Carr is right and the left is wrong.

TOP OF THE DAY by Howard Polskin

Greetings! Delayed: Things That Matter, the little-watched CBS News monthly town hall show has shelved host Tony Dokoupil’s interview with Veep J.D. Vance, originally slated for tomorrow night. Best guess is that the war in Iran might have been a factor...President Cognitive Decline keeps referring to his war with Iran as an “excursion,” according to many outlets including the Military Times. Definition of excursion (per Oxford Learner’s dictionary): a short journey made for pleasure, especially one that has been organized for a group of people. Definition of incursion (per Oxford Learner’s dictionary): a sudden attack on a place by foreign armies.  The devil is in the details Mr. President, especially when billions of dollars in bombs are falling in the Middle East...More mixed messages from Trump: First The Donald posts a welcome on Truth Social to the Iranian soccer team scheduled to play in the World Cup beginning June 11 in the United States, Canada and Mexico. But then he adds, “I really don’t believe it is appropriate that they be there, for their own life and safety.” Earlier the same day, in another post, he expressed enthusiasm for the U.S. hosting some of the World Cup games, but added methinks defensively, “It will be the Greatest and Safest (my emphasis) Sporting Event in American History”...Weekend Watch: Fukushima: A Nuclear Nightmare examines the 2011 disaster at the Fukushima nuclear power plant in northern Japan. The documentary offers a white-knuckle look at how a massive earthquake triggered a tsunami that flooded the nuclear facility.  The harrowing footage and tales of worker heroism make this HBO Max program soar....If you keep reading, I’ll keep Righting. Dems Side with the Mullahs
