Every day, this administration becomes more Orwellian…At the close of yesterday’s stock market, the right wing media outlet Newsmax had a market cap of an astounding $20 billion just two days after going public.  To put that in context, The New  York Times Company has a market cap of $8.1 billion.  Newspaper publishing giant Gannett has a cap of $4.1 billion.  Worth noting: When billionaire Jeff Bezos bought the Washington Post in 2013, he shelled out a mere $250 million. Can’t imagine it would get that price today.  Also worth noting:  Richard Nixon’s grandson, Christopher Nixon Cox, has been on Newsmax’s board of directors for the past year….Props to ironman Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), who delivered a record-breaking 25-hour speech from the Senate floor attacking President Trump that ended last night. The previous record for the longest speech was set in 1957 and delivered by segregationist Sen. Strom Thurmond. (Politico)… Anti-Trump News from the Right: The prolific MAGA-loving blogger Liberty Paige downplays the chatter about a Trump third term.  She terms it a “troll move” and observes that Democrats seem to be taking the bait (SteveGruber.com). The National Review gives a big thumbs down to Trump’s obnoxious war on Canada, calling his verbal assault “reckless.” And the Wall Street Journal once again criticizes Trump because he broke his campaign promise to lower prices. “His tariff obsession will make life more expensive, and Americans know it,” writes opinion writer William Galston…RedState speculates that MSNBC primetime host Lawrence O’Donnell’s two-week absence may have been tied to his desire for a much bigger paycheck.  No sources are cited, BTW…If you keep reading, I’ll keep Righting. In recognition of those dark days, TheRighting has published a list of 200 outrageous right wing headlines from that terrifying time five years ago. It’s a toxic brew of misinformation and misdirection that harmed untold thousands of people and needlessly divided our nation at such a deadly time…Another day, another NY Post op-ed opposing Donald Trump’s tariffs. This one is from Tad DeHaven, who predicts tariffs will turn our economy upside down. “Rather than tamp down inflation or boost growth, the broad tariffs Trump plans to impose this week are likely to upend our economy in damaging ways,” opines DeHavens…Ex-CBS News legend Dan Rather posted this gem of a Turkish proverb on Facebook: “When a clown moves into a palace, he doesn’t become a king.  The palace instead becomes a circus”…Townhall’s William Marshall suggests that the U.S. put down billions of green to buy  Greenland from Denmark. Marshall says the U.S. should pay every one of Greenland’s 55,000 citizens $1 million dollars to garner support for an American takeover.  That alone would cost $55 billion.  I’m sure a million bucks would have a lot of Greenlanders blinded with dollar signs…The right wing billionaire’s club welcomed a new member. Yesterday, Newsmax went public and its value immediately skyrocketed north of 700% making founder and CEO Chris Ruddy on paper worth more than $3 billion. (Forbes)…Meanwhile, another high profile conservative media outlet, The Daily Wire, has hit some speed bumps. Its entertainment division, which promised way more than it delivered, appears to be on life support after staff cuts and executive exodus, according to Status News. I’m not surprised.
