Twenty years ago today, Hurricane Katrina made landfall in New Orleans resulting in nearly 1,500 deaths and more than $100 billion in damages.  Check out the absorbing Netflix three-part documentary Katrina: Come Hell and High Water.  It’s not a light or entertaining three-hour ride down memory lane. Instead, it’s a vivid reminder of the frightful power of nature and the deadly consequences when government aid fails our most vulnerable populations....Male or female? FBI Director Kash Patel referred to transgender Minneapolis church shooter Robin Westman as a male. But most mainstream outlets called Westman female. The Washington Free Beacon has the confusing details...Townhall’s fiery columnist Kurt Schlichter predicts which Dem candidates will merge into the "sane lane" in the race for Democratic nomination in 2028.  They include Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, California Representative Ro Khanna, and former Chicago mayor and Obama chief of staff Rahm Emanuel.  Schlichter’s model for a “sane laner” is Bill Clinton because he believed that “crime is bad and people should work instead of getting welfare”...Good to know: Gavin Newsom's Trump act is working, says The Free Press’s Matthew Continetti...Weekend Watch: Pickings are slim this long weekend, but with the start of school I’m recommending The Holdovers on Prime Video. Paul Giamatti stars as a curmudgeonly classics teacher at a stuffy boarding school who gets stuck overseeing students who have nowhere to go over Christmas break.  I’m also recommending (for the start of NFL season next week), America’s Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys, which profiles Jerry Jones, the colorful owner of the Dallas Cowboys. Greetings! The Wall Street Journal tackled the subject of the horrific Minneapolis school shooting yesterday in an inoffensive editorial not likely to raise cheers on either side of the gun debate.  The editors wrote that the disturbed young men who are school shooters shouldn’t have access to guns.  They go on to write, “The mental-health lobby and gun-rights advocates may protest, but a society serious about protecting its most vulnerable needs to have this debate.” Debate? That’s it? Lame...Dept. of Bad Timing: The CDC is in turmoil after the abrupt firing by HHS Secretary RFK Jr of the agency’s head Dr. Susan Monarez, so what does Kennedy do?  He writes an anodyne op-ed for today’s Wall Street Journal extolling the virtues of eating an apple a day and encouraging medical schools to add nutrition to their curriculum....The right-wing press is raising questions about the whereabouts of the $100 million raised during the January 30 FireAid concert to assist victims of the devasting LA wildfires.  Earlier this week, the Washington Free Beacon questioned where the money was spent and now Hollywood in Toto is fanning the flames.  HiT reports that actor Miles Teller announced during the concert, “All of the money raised will go directly to people who need it now.” To which, HiT snarked, “Unless they’re white, perhaps?”...Just asking: Has anyone heard from Rudy Giuliani lately?
