TOP OF THE DAY by Howard Polskin

Greetings! Matthew Dowd, who MSNBC sacked last week for comments about the murder of Charlie Kirk, has had a Substack where his posts were infrequent. I suspect will see more from Dowd in that newsletter space in the coming weeks. Worth noting: Lincoln Project co-founder Steve Schmidt offers a spirited defense of Dowd on his Substack....Rev your conspiracy engines: A  Washington Free Beacon exclusive states that the FBI is looking into social media accounts indicating “foreknowledge” of the Kirk killing.  “The posts—one of which referenced the date of Kirk’s assassination, September 10, more than a month before it took place—were all deleted in the days following the killing,” according to the Free  Beacon’s Aaron Sibarium... Trump just did Joe Concha a huge solid on Truth Social  by promoting the conservative commentator’s tome The Greatest Comeback Ever: Inside Trump’s Big Beautiful Campaign. Concha’s MAGA love letter of a book dropped five months ago. ...Last night’s Emmys ceremony  was mostly politics-free, save for  “Hacks” co-star Hannah Einbinder’s four-letter ICE outburst and her call to “free Palestine.” (NY Post)...The Free Press was only one of the three right-wing websites to post traffic gains in August, according to TheRighting’s new analysis. Founded in 2022 by neo-con Bari Weiss, there have been multiple reports that The Free Press is about to be acquired by Skydance, the budding media giant that just acquired Paramount.  If the deal goes through, there’s serious speculation that Weiss, who made a noisy and nasty exit from her editorial post at the New York Times in 2020, will assume an editorial leadership role at Paramount-controlled CBS News.  Naturally, agita inside the home of “60 Minute” has been turned up to 11 at the prospect of having Weiss  at the reins of the storied news division...If you keep reading, I’ll keep Righting. The Free Press, the right-tilting company co-founded by former New  York Times journalist Bari Weiss in 2022,  generated a 4% increase in YOY visits. It had more visits than established right-wing news brands like the National Review, the Washington Free Beacon and The Federalist.

The challenge for Secretary Hegseth is that he’s got damaged goods to choose among for the next generation of senior leaders, because, to some extent, everybody was complicit with the previous administration and its ideology.

TOP OF THE DAY by Howard Polskin

Greetings! I found it noteworthy that Trump made the announcement about the apprehension of the alleged killer of  Charlie Kirk.  It points to Trump’s pathological need to take credit for any positive news, and a subtle dig at the much criticized FBI Director Kash Patel. The NY Times has a scathing takedown of Patel today.  The FBI director’s remarks at the press conference this morning announcing the successful end of the manhunt struck me as a rebuttal to the Times story where he repeatedly touted the speed and efficiency of his agency’s investigation...Low-profile Middle Tennesse State University (MTSU) has landed in the middle of two controversies. As The College Fix reports, it fired Assistant Dean laura Sosh-Lightsy after she posted a comment on Facebook saying she had “zero sympathy” for the murder of Charlie Kirk.  And Campus Reform published a story saying that official chat group of the MTSU College Democrats “appear to say ‘There is no reason to feel sorry’ for murdered Charlie Kirk.” However, the story went on to point out that the group denounces political violence and termed the assassination “reviling”...Echoing an oft-repeated phrase relating to the JFK assassination, this NewsBusters article asks, “Where were you when Charlie was shot?” “Like the JFK assassination, this brutal murder will not be forgotten, not for many years to come,” writes Brent Bozell, the founder of the right-wing watchdog group the Media Research  Council. “You just felt it yesterday. Something happened that pierced America's soul — deeply”...If you keep reading, I’ll keep Righting. Howard

Charlie Kirk and the Depravity of the Left

By Lisa Carr: Twenty-four years ago, it was foreigners on our soil attacking us from within because they hated what we stood for. Today, it is our own. If that does not indicate how sick our society is, I don’t know what else to say.
