White House Wire Ignores WJS, But Showers Fox News with Links

The White House Wire (WWW) disregarded the Wall Street Journal in July, after the nation’s leading business news outlet published coarse details about a birthday note it claimed Donald Trump sent in 2003 to financier Jeffrey Epstein.  According to TheRighting’s exclusive research, the WWW didn’t link once to the Journal in its July newsletters. The WWW linked twice to the Journal in June. Thirty-one news outlets were cited in July by the WWW including prominent right-wing websites and mainstream outlets such as the NY Times, CNN, the Associated Press, CBS News and Bloomberg.

The WWW is the mini-aggregation website and newsletter created by the White House to spotlight six articles a day that are favorable to the Trump administration.

TheRighting’s research found that the White House linked to the Murdoch-controlled Fox News 29 times in July, far more than any other outlet.  The Murdoch-controlled New York Post and Fox Business had 12 and nine links respectively.  Breitbart tallied the second-highest number of links with 17 in July.

According to TheRighting’s findings, the WWW in July featured economic developments that reflected well on the White House.

“From studying the links the White House picked in July, it’s clear that the administration wanted to emphasize positive economic news that would benefit President Trump,” said Howard Polskin, President, TheRighting.  “The links not only reveal what the White House is reading, but it’s a keyhole into its priorities as well.”

Altogether, the WWW linked to five business news outlets in July: Fox Business (9 links), Reuters (5 links), CNBC (3 links), Bloomberg (two links) and CNN Business (one link).

Polskin also noted the frenemy status between Trump and the Murdoch empire.  “On one hand, the multi-billion lawsuit the president filed last month against the Journal, embodies the peak of the hostilities between the two camps,” said Polskin.  “However, it’s noteworthy that after the lawsuit was filed July 18, the White House Wire continued linking to Fox News 13 times. It sends a strong message that Fox News is still probably the most useful media megaphone for amplifying the White House’s point of view.”
