Breitbart Posts First Year-Over-Year Increase in Traffic Since 2017
August 22, 2019, New York, NY – Breitbart snapped its streak of 27 consecutive months of losing traffic by posting an 8% increase in year-over-year (YOY) unique visits in July. According to the TheRighting’s exclusive analysis of traffic to conservative websites in July 2019 based on Comscore data, Breitbart recorded 6,407,000 unique visits compared to 5,925,000 in July 2018. The last time Breitbart generated YOY audience growth was March 2017.
“A busy month of major news events and headline-grabbing tweets from President Trump helped drive more traffic to Breitbart,” said Howard Polskin, President and Chief Curator, TheRighting. “Stories that dominated headlines across all spectrums of the media in July included Trump’s tweet encouraging four Congresswomen to return to their ‘corrupt countries,’ the mass shooting at the Gilroy Garlic Festival, Robert Mueller’s testimony before two House committees, Trump’s disparaging description of Baltimore, and the second round of debates by Democratic candidates for president. Audiences on the right went to a variety of conservative websites, Breitbart included, for breaking news, analysis and opinion.”
Right-leaning Foxnews.com notched its seventh consecutive month of traffic growth in 2019, attracting 101,123,000 unique visitors, an audience size almost equal to the population of the United States. It was the sixth month this year that Foxnews.com crested 100 million unique visitors.
Three leading mainstream media brands had significant YOY traffic increases as they also benefitted from a robust news environment in July. According to Comscore, YOY unique visitors rose 15% for The Washington Post, 13% for CNN and 6% for The New York Times.
