TOP OF THE DAY by Howard Polskin

Jan. 29, 2024
Greetings! The Manhattan jury’s $83 million judgment against Donald Trump had the mainstream media buzzing overtime this weekend. Yet the  reaction from right wing media was mostly crickets, almost like he got slapped with a parking ticket…Nastiest right wing headline of the week (and it’s only Monday!) comes  courtesy of the Free Beacon: “Finally Some Good News: The Journalist Population Is Getting Smaller.” Free Beacon’s Andrew Stiles goes on to say, “Combating the overpopulation of journalists might be the only issue on which Biden has succeeded where Donald Trump failed.” My take: the drastic shrinking of the news business, one of the pillars of our democracy, is a cause for alarm, not celebration. I’m aligned Sebastian Junger’s National Review lead article.  The award-winning author argues that when journalism dies, the truth dies with it…Dept. of Coincidence: WND wonders if the National Review, the bible of establishment conservatives, is on its last legs.…Trigger warning for the right: The hot documentary out of the Sundance Film Festival was “Will & Harper.” It chronicles Will Ferrell’s road trip across America with long-time pal Harper, who came out as a trans woman two years ago. “Have you been to Nordstrom Rack, since you got a new rack,”  Ferrell quips to Harper, reports the SF Gate. The film got a standing ovation at Sundance. No word on which service will stream it, but it’s a safe bet that it won’t be Fox Nation…If  you keep reading, I’ll keep Righting. Howard
