With the exception of the United States, the developed world recognizes the importance of requiring people to present identification when they vote. ID is essential to ensure that voters have citizenship, are of proper age, vote only once in each election, and vote in the proper jurisdiction. It is also essential if citizens are to have confidence in election results.
