On Christmas afternoon NBC News and its media cohorts ran premature reports declaring President Donald Trump to be the “first president since 2002 not to visit troops at Christmastime.” Less than 24 hours later, the president and first lady arrived in Iraq for a surprise visit with U.S. troops stationed at Al Asad Air Base “to thank them for their service, their success, and their sacrifice and to wish them a Merry Christmas.”

As usual, members of our esteemed media were caught lying on Wednesday, this time about the motivations for President Donald J. Trump’s visit to Iraq to visit troops…NBC said that he was the first president not to visit the troops as Christmastime, only to correct themselves after Trump left for Iraq late Tuesday night. This led leftists conclude that the media had “shamed” Trump into visiting our fine soldiers.

On New Day, it was repeatedly mentioned that this was Trump's first visit to troops in a combat zone, with intimations it was done to deflect attention from the resignation of Jim Mattis and the withdrawal from Syria. Multiple references were also made to Melania having worn sunglasses at night upon her return.

By remaining coy and then surprising the military members, Trump effectively gave the military the recognition they deserve. Then it caused the media to bend itself into a pretzel backtracking, spinning, and complaining. Trump now looks heroic, selfless, full of grace, humor, and concern while the media looks petty, boring, even belligerent in their attempt to frame Trump’s behavior.

More than 500 migrants were released Wednesday onto the streets of Texas and New Mexico, U.S. Immigration Customs and Enforcement said, as the government struggles to detain illegal immigrants amid an influx of Central Americans trying to cross the U.S.-Mexico border. The release on Wednesday followed days of other mass releases by the agency in order to prevent migrant families from being detained longer than allowed.

They tried to bury this in a pre-Christmas Saturday news dump, but that can’t stop the damage this will do to their reputation.
