The Undiscovered Truth About Trump’s Truth Social: It’s Not Growing
By Howard Polskin, March 27, 2023
Donald Trump’s Truth Social appears stuck in rut bigger than a Trump International sand trap. Since launching a little more than a year ago, the conservative-friendly social media platform has barely grown its audience, according to our exclusive research based on Comscore data.
For February 2022, the month it launched with much fanfare and press interest, the site drew 3,260,000 unique visitors. Fast forward to February 2023, and the site recorded almost the same number of unique visitors , 3,299,000. That’s a very modest 1 percent increase, not something the Maestro of Mar-a-Lago can really crow about. The lack of growth must be especially disappointing to Trump, since he has used Truth Social as a megaphone to jack-hammer his grievances and poisonous insults into the nation’s information bloodstream. That type of attention should have driven millions more visits. Instead, the number of visitors to the site has remained essentially flat.
Weakness Upon Weakness
The demographics for Truth Social represent another weakness for the fledgling venture. According to Similarweb, another audience measurement firm, more than a third of his visitors are 55 or older. Rival social media platforms, which have hundreds of millions more users, draw far fewer visitors in that age category: Facebook (16%), YouTube (13%), Instagram (12%) and TikTok (11%).
In fairness to Truth Social, other conservative-friendly social media platforms have hit the skids during the past several months. In February 2023, the most recent monthly period analyzed by TheRighting using Comscore data, four social platforms experienced double-digit declines led by the once red-hot Parler, which only drew a paltry 72,000 unique visitors.
And Truth Social’s three million-plus visitors is a somewhat respectable figure, drawing more traffic than legacy right wing news brands like National Review and Washington Times. But for a braggart like Donald Trump, Truth Social’s tepid performance seems like one more chink in his armor and another example of his flagging popularity.
