Dept. of Confusion: In corporate blog post over the weekend, Google announced that it was changing the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America.  But there’s a catch: it’s only in Google Maps U.S.   People using Google Maps in Canada will still see Lake Ontario.  And everyone outside of the U.S. and Canada will see it referred to like this: “Lake Ontario (Lake America). This is no inconsequential hiccup. Google Maps holds roughly 75% of the global digital mapping and navigation share and reaches more than 2 billion people a month. Worth noting: Apple Maps and Waze (owned by Google, btw) still use Lake Ontario. Also Worth Noting: The editorial board of the Syracuse Post-Standard, which is headquartered 34 miles south of Lake Ontario, described the renaming as an embarrassment. “Are there no grownups in the administration?” the editors asked in an August 30 editorial....World’s worst vegetable: It’s kale, according to PJ Media, which describes it as “hell lettuce.” I think it’s fairly safe to assume that almost all sides of the political spectrum can agree with this assessment. However, Pete Hegseth may want a word with PJ Media’s editors since kale is one of the best foods to combat sexual dysfunction and the Sec. of Defense is notoriously testosterone-obsessed. Greetings! Lake America? Trump signed an executive order yesterday renaming Lake Ontario to Lake America. He did it because he’s feuding with Canada over tariffs, although it’s a head scratcher over what that name change accomplishes. To me, it’s just another example of the petty POTUS’s pathological need to put his stamp on anything. Worth wondering: What are middle school students of U.S. geography going to be taught this year about the smallest of the Great Lakes on our northern border?...Dept. of Modesty: Last night, Trump posted an image on Truth Social of the headshots of 35 presidents.  They are ranked by by their competence. (The ranking wasn’t sourced in the Truth Social post, although the Daily Caller cites a post on X alluding to an almost identical 1948 ranking from Life magazine.) It will surprise no one to learn that Biden and Obama were at the bottom of the list, while Donald Trump took the prize as the single greatest American president, even ahead of FDR, Abraham Lincoln and George Washington...It’s news to me: Trump posted another list on Truth Social last night spotlighting 10 U.S. territories including Puerto Rico, the Marshall Islands and – wait for it – the Strait of Hormuz...Yesterday may have been Karoline Leavitt’s last day as White House press secretary, but it’s possible we’ll still be seeing a lot of her every day.  According to an exclusive story in the Daily Mail, the sassy 29-year-old MAGA mouthpiece is being considered for a role as a regular on ABC’s popular daytime talker “The View” joining a panel of mostly liberal ladies like Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar...Weekend watch: Netflix’s The Whisper Man just dropped today. It sounds like a generic thriller about a widowed crime novelist (Adam Scott) seeking help from his retired cop father after his young son is abducted.
