Greetings! My business day began September 11, 2001, by boarding the 8:00 a.m. shuttle from NYC’s LaGuardia Airport to Ronald Reagan National Airport.  I had a 10:00 a.m. meeting in downtown DC at the offices of Sun Microsystems.  It was a perfect late-summer morning, temperatures already climbing above 70 and not a cloud in the sharp blue sky. My plane landed a few minutes early and as soon as I turned on my mobile phone upon rising from my seat, a call came in. It was my assistant, who booked my ticket. “Are you alive?” she asked in near-hysteria. As I disembarked the aircraft, she managed to briefly explain that a plane had crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center. I stood near the boarding gate watching CNN for a few minutes, shrugged my shoulders more than a little concerned, and walked to the taxi line. Before getting in a car, I called my contact at Sun Microsystems who assured me the meeting was still happening. My taxi took me past the Pentagon where I noticed a cloud of dark smoke billowing from the one of the world’s largest buildings. It became immediately apparent to me that America was under attack. Screw the meeting, I thought. I gotta get out of here town immediately because the nation’s capital is clearly a target of some unknow adversary. I asked the driver to take me to the nearest Hertz. As he pulled up, a line was already snaking out the door. Thinking fast, I asked him to wait until I secured a car rental and promised him $100 above the meter if he could do that. My plan was to offer him an additional $400 to drive me to a relative’s home in nearby Baltimore if I couldn’t get a vehicle. Luckily, I got one of the last cars at Hertz, peeled off five twenties and headed north to my home in Manhattan, alone in my car with dark thoughts swirling in my head about what the attack would mean for America and the world. And I prayed for the poor souls at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and the passengers on the doomed flights. I think of that day often and it still fills my heart with an immense sadness.  Howard

Trump’s Shtick Show: Trump rambled for 104 minutes at the opening night of the GOP’s initial midterm convention (AKA pep rally for Trump).  The portly POTUS delivered an uneven performance which wasn’t helped by his unkempt hair and his puffy eyes which sometimes looked like mere slits on his face.  But mostly, he was doing his standard shtick of name-calling, grievances against the left, unhinged boasts of his accomplishment and promises of the country’s great future. The convention’s second and concluding night will be broadcast today on C-SPAN.  Trump will once again address the crowd at night.  Newsmax has more... Dept of Strange-But-True, Part I: Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA), the controversial, hoodie-wearing contrarian, shocked the political world last night by appearing in a 67-second video at last night’s GOP midterm convention praising Sen. Dave McCormick (R-PA)....Dept. of Strange-But-True, Part II: The Gateway Pundit reports that Tucker Carlson “all but endorses far-left Democrat Abdul El-Sayed” in the race for Michigan senate.  Carlson also described El-Sayed’s campaign as “literally Trumpian”....“60 Minutes” leans left: A just-released NewsBusters study of the popular CBS newsmagazine over the last six seasons found that the show’s political segments have “skewed heavily to the left by a five-to-one margin.” During those six seasons, the program aired 78 political stories, often with anti-Trump or anti-conservative viewpoints, according to NewsBusters’ researchers...
