TOP OF THE DAY by Howard Polskin

Greetings! Secretary of Defense goes on the offensive: Pete “Hairgel”Hegseth blasted coverage of Iran at this morning’s press briefing. In his trademark macho rant, Hegseth whined about the “endless stream of garbage” and asked if reporters were rooting for the enemy. (The Hill)...Who wants to take an Alaskan cruise with a bunch of 55+ conservatives? The rightward Association of Mature American Citizens (AMAC) is offering a weeklong cruise to America’s northern-most state in August.  Featured speakers on board include: Kevin and Sam Sorbo, AMAC CEO Rebecca Weber, plus Just the News CEO John Solomon. Not the strongest lineup...Right-wing sports outlet Outkick claims ESPN’s ratings have increased because it  ditched “woke” commentators. The article specifically cites sportscasters Elle Duncan, Sarah Spain, Bomani Jones, Mark Jones and Clinton Yates. Outkick opines that the ESPN programs that focus the least on race and basketball (where Blacks comprise 70% of the NBA’s players, I should add) are building audiences at the fastest rate...Split screen: The NY Times just dropped the hammer on Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer, in  a devastating investigative article detailing alleged transgressions of family members and staff. Meanwhile, on Foxnews.com, the embattled Chavez-DeRemer has a butt-kissing op-ed  touting Trump’s tax cuts, boasting they mean big refunds for Americans...I was a guest, along with George Conway on the popular podcast Fast Politics with Molly Jong-Fast. You can hear my segment at the 33:33 minute mark, if you so desire...If you keep reading, I’ll keep Righting. Focusing entirely on domestic issues will bring Republican wins in the midterms.

Trump’s Not Wrong on the European Nations

Europe wants stability—but doesn’t want to enforce it. Europe wants secure energy—but doesn’t want to defend it. Europe wants America to lead—but complains the entire time it’s happening.

It’s Time to Rethink NATO

NATO won the Cold War—but clinging to it now drains U.S. power from the Indo-Pacific, where the real contest for the future is unfolding.

Jewish Comics No Longer Safe in Hollywood

The media seem totally uninterested in the obvious antisemitism. When a black celebrity receives death threats for, say, a race-neutral casting decision, the news spreads like digital wildfire.

DEI Is Alive and Well at the University of Michigan

source: National Review

The University of Michigan (UM) announced in 2025 that it would shut down various offices and programs in response to the Trump administration’s crusade against DEI, but new research shows that a majority of its DEI staff remain employed, while the school’s DEI initiatives have simply been rebranded.

TOP OF THE DAY by Howard Polskin

Greetings! Trump doubles down on religious imagery this morning.  He just reposted on Truth Social what is presumably an AI-created image of Jesus Christ with his arm draped around Trump’s shoulder.  A partial image of the American flag dominates the background. Trump wrote, “The Radical Left Lunatics might not like this, but I think it is quite nice!!!” Of course he thinks it’s nice. The depiction of him makes Trump look at least 30 pounds lighter and 15 years younger...The Swalwell Watch: The media monitors at NewsBusters had a busy week tabulating all the media appearances that Dem ex-congressman Eric Swalwell made on CNN and MS NOW From January 1 through April, 10. Swalwell was a guest 50 times, which averages to more than three appearances a week, per NewsBusters.  Here’s a list of all shows where Swalwell appeared. Swalwell resigned this week after several charges of sexual misconduct surfaced...The Dispatch makes a strong case that Washington may be the most embarrassing state in the country. Ignorance and incompetence are cited as the reasons.... On Friday, TheRighting reported that Melania Trump speaks six languages. Not so fast, according Maggie Green, one of TheRighting’s sharp-eyed subscribers.  She sent me this link to an article from The List, which casts doubt on Melania’s abilities as a polyglot... True! Can’t argue with the headline of this National Review article: The Futility of Arguing About Trump. Here’s the subhead: “After ten years, there’s little worth saying about Trump’s character”... The Pope’s Stance on Iran War Is Shocking and Ignores Tehran’s Evil

source: NY Post

Presenting this as a war of unjustified aggression is nothing less than moral inversion. The Pope has chosen to ignore the mass shedding of innocent blood by the Iranian regime, which earlier this year murdered around 40,000 innocent protesters and has spent the past 47 years waging war on America and the West through terrorist atrocities.

Pope Leo Attacked Trump First

source: Washington Examiner

An honest assessment of the feud, free of pearl-clutching hysteria, requires an objective review of the pope’s rhetoric. To understand the tension between the Vatican and the White House, one must go back to at least October when Leo attacked Trump over illegal immigration enforcement operations in the U.S.

Pope Leo Needs to Brush Up His Bible and Its Lessons on War and Peace

source: NY Post

The Bible has a realistic view of the inevitability of human conflict. As Ecclesiastes says, there is “a time for war, and a time for peace.”

Don’t Expect Trump’s Attack on Pope Leo to Spark a New Religious Left

The Americans flocking to the pews aren’t interested in the same old partisan politics.

The Catholic Case for War with Iran

source: The Free Press

The Church advocates peace, but it isn’t pacifist. Eliminating a nuclear threat from a determined enemy is a noble reason to make war.

Stop Calling This Brinkmanship. Trump’s Hormuz Move Is Real Pressure

Swalwell Has One Foot Out the Door

source: Conservative View from NH

One of the richest and most hypocritical moments for Swalwell was when he called out Brett Kavanaugh during his Supreme Court hearings. The charges he levied on Kavanaugh are nearly identical to those that Swalwell is now facing. Any criticism of Swalwell needs to also be directed at Congress that knew of Swalwell’s activities and buried the info.

After Swalwell, Is Sen. Gallego Next?

Swalwell’s best political pal, Sen. Ruben Gallego, who had posed shirtless with Swalwell on a trip to Qatar, and allegedly appears in a video of Swalwell manhandling a woman. I

We Told You So About Ruben Gallego

source: Washington Free Beacon

The aspiring 2028 presidential candidate is either deaf, dumb, and blind or a degenerate liar. There's really no other possible explanation for his supporting role in the saga of Eric Swalwell (D., Calif.).

Capitol Cleanup: Some of the Trash Is Finally Being Removed from Congress

source: SteveGruber.com

Looks like a window finally opened in Congress – and a couple of lawmakers just got swept out with the stale air and will end up in the trash bin of political history. Democratic California Rep. Eric Swalwell is heading for the exit after multiple women accused him of sexual misconduct
