Dumb: The conservative editorial board of the Wall Street Journal just labeled Trump’s tariff feud with Canada as “the dumbest trade war"...Changing my tune about Harp dig: Last week, I criticized Sen. Jon Ossoff’s (D-GA) interview with Jen Psaki of MS NOW.  He evaded her two questions asking him to clarify last weekend’s comments that Trump just wants to “fly with Natalie (Harp),”  the president’s attractive executive assistant. I thought it was a low blow because it insinuated that there might some sort of May-December romance. But now, I’ve reconsidered because Ossoff’s brief  comment – three words actually –  opened the gates for a healthy national discussion about the exact role of a formerly mostly unknown aide who apparently spends more time with Trump than just about anyone in his administration. It’s obvious, based on reporting like this NY Times article, that the relationship is deeply twisted. But what else did you expect in Trump world? Worth noting: PJ Media’s Scott Pinsker sees Harp’s role differently: “A young, attractive, single woman lost her father in a traumatizing way, nearly died of cancer herself, miraculously recovered, and then decided to channel her energies into helping the leader whose healthcare policies gave her a second chance at life. That’s no scandal! You kidding me?! This is a feel-good Hallmark movie in the making!”...A weighty presidency:  The Washington Post points out that Trump may have gained 23 pounds during his second term. The portly POTUS now tips the scales at 238 pounds, making him just under two pounds of being classified as obese, according to the Post...While our Mac-munching president may be gaining weight, he’s lost his mojo. The right’s gonna love this: Matt Calkins, a Seattle Times sports columnist for more than a decade, resigned after the outlet allegedly spiked his column in support of two high school female athletes who resisted competing against biological males. NewsBusters has the details.  And here’s the rejected column that Calkins posted on his Substack. Worth noting: The NY Post jumped on the story this morning and published a column by Calkins about why he quit and also reprinted the spiked article.  This story may have legs...Gag alert: American Greatness has published a list of the Trump administration’s greatest accomplishment in the last year and concludes that it’s the “most consequential presidency in generations”...Surprising as it seems, the conservative entertainment blog Hollywood in Toto is intrigued by what it describes as a woke, queer slasher film helmed by a trans director. The blog notes that Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma is performing well in limited release and may be poised for success as it expands to more theaters this weekend. The blog usually goes thumbs down on any movie that reeks of woke...Weekend watch: The eight-part Hulu series Furious ranks as the darkest program I’ve seen this year. Nonetheless, the story about a damaged rookie female FBI agent on the trail of young woman serial killer in NYC bristles with originality and has moments that are genuinely thrilling. Weekend whiff: Sunday afternoon, Fox broadcasts the Freedom 250 Grand Prix, the Trump-created IndyCar race in the nation’s capital. The cars will zip around the 1.66-mile course through some of DC’s most iconic streets. It’s another sad attempt to turn the capital into a theme park.
