NY Times Columnist Hosts Chinese Government Adviser in U.S.

New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman last month hosted a delegation from a think tank helmed by a Chinese government adviser deeply enmeshed in Beijing’s propaganda operations. Friedman met in July with Wang Huiyao, the president of the Center for China and Globalization. Friedman also hosted the group at Planet Word, a Washington, D.C.-based language museum run by his wife, Ann.

Canceling now would mean that Congress buckled in the face of Chinese threats and the Biden administration wavering. It would establish the principle that Beijing has veto power over the travel plans of senior U.S. officials. It would tell the world that America is more interested in mollifying Xi Jinping than in supporting the democratically elected Tsai Ing-wen.
