Stop Shaming People for Not Voting

There’s nothing wrong with refusing to vote. No politician is perfect, but you shouldn’t give anyone your vote unless they roughly approximate your values and you at least believe that they are fit for office. To do otherwise and just vote for voting’s sake is not “your civic duty.” It’s actually a bad thing.

Trump on Saturday night posted a video offering an update on his health status, he says he’s feeling “much better,” but about 120 seconds in, he said what he and his surrogates should be screaming every day until Nov. 3. “This is America,” he said. “This is the most powerful country in the world. I can’t be locked up in a room upstairs and totally safe and just say hey, whatever happens, happens. I can’t do that. We have to confront problems. As a leader, you have to confront problems.”

Quinn Hillyer: Some of us who are conservative still dream of a different Republican at the top of the ticket. We wonder if winning would be easier without all of Trump’s self-inflicted wounds…The stories of Trump’s alleged narcissism, racism, and cruelty come so repeatedly that they wear on the nerves. If Trump would just get out of the way, maybe we would have a campaign dominated not by Trump’s outlandish personality but by ideas for America’s future.
