Today’s Riots Comparable to “Late Stage” Violence of 60s, 70s

The riots of today are potentially more dangerous than the riots of the 1960s, said scholars during a Heritage Foundation forum Wednesday. The riots are not yet at the “intensity and the breadth and the longevity” of the 1960s riots that began peacefully and blossomed into acts of terror by the early 1970s, said Victor Davis Hanson, a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution. 

California’s Covid-19 Restrictions Go Too Far

The fact that houses of worship and private schools remain able to open only slightly or remain closed entirely while some businesses may operate freely and some do so with restrictions seems too heavy-handed and arbitrary to be accidental. It seems obvious that California’s leaders are engaging in a bit more authoritarian governing than normal.

Conservative Favorite Herman Cain Dies of Coronavirus

News of Cain’s death spurred some political opponents to deride the entrepreneur for his loyalty to Trump rather than appreciate his efforts to create jobs for fellow blacks and other minorities. In particular, ungracious critics mocked Cain for doubting that Covid-19 was a public health threat and for dismissing the wisdom of wearing a protective mask in attending Trump’s much-criticized rally in Tulsa.

Now Is Not (Yet) the Time to Cut Funding to the World Health Organization

 While many developed countries are currently in the midst of dealing with COVID-19, the disease is just now starting to affect many developing countries.  Those countries will depend on the international community to assist them in responding to COVID-19, and an announcement that the U.S. is cutting funding to the WHO, regardless of the reality, will be interpreted as abandoning them.
